Key Takeaways

  • SUV vehicles occupy six of the ten top positions for most-subscribed vehicles by model
  • Renault makes  most-subscribed vehicles by make for the first time

Vehicle utilisation data released today by Loopit for December has revealed that subscribing to an SUV has been a popular option with many families seeking a vehicle suitable for the holiday break.

Looking beyond this category, the same can be said with eight of ten positions in the top subscribed luxury vehicles list being occupied by SUVs such as the Land Rover Range Rover Sport and the Porsche Cayenne.

Loopit says this demand reflects the popularity of car subscription as a mobility option that allows for motorists to flexibly swap their vehicles throughout the year.

“The car subscription model is a convenient way for individuals and families to switch between vehicles as their lifestyle and needs change. To see the uptake in SUVs reflects greatly on the growing demand for flexibility and more importantly, the need for businesses to swiftly provide on-demand mobility solutions. ” says Michael Higgins, co-founder and managing director at Loopit.

Kia and Hyundai have also climbed the list in most-subscribed vehicles by make, claiming second and third position respectively. Renault also makes the most-subscribed vehicles by make list for the first time since the launch of the VSU Index. Such a trend can be attributed to the increased demand for the Renault Master, which also makes the list for most-subscribed commercial vehicles.

Despite recent news of Tesla’s price drops, Polestar continues to hold top spot as the most subscribed electric vehicle on the global Loopit platform.

About the Loopit VSU Index Methodology

The VSU Index measures vehicle utilisation on subscription rather than individual vehicle volume. Due to the inherent flexible nature of car subscription, vehicle utilisation is measured by considering the cumulative number of days in which any given vehicle is utilised within an active subscription during the monthly reporting period. In this way, we equally consider utilisation for individual vehicles being utilised across multiple subscribers, as well as individual vehicles that remain with the same subscriber for longer periods.
